Thank you to everyone who came in for a conference! It was so nice to meet with you all!
Book it is about to begin. Calendars will go home today. You can fill out the calendar and turn it in at the end of the month for a coupon for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. This is optional, and it does not replace the reading logs that come home in the homework packet.
·
Once again, it is getting colder out so many
children are coming to school with jackets. In order for jackets to be worn in
the classroom, they must be solid red, white or navy blue with no logos or
writing. Any clothes that are worn under the jacket and visible need to follow
the uniform and be red, white or navy blue, as well.
·
Book orders will be going home today. They can be paid
by check or cash and checks should be made out to Scholastic Book Clubs. They
are due back by October 26.
·
Harvest Festival is coming up. Tickets are on
sale in the front office. We are also asking for candy donations for Harvest Fest. If you are able to donate please send it to school with your child before October 26th. There will be more information about Harvest Fest in the Link over the next few weeks.
·
We are having problems with students bringing
toys to school. Please make sure children are not bringing them to school. They are a distraction and they are often lost, broken, or stolen which causes problems among the kids. Thank you for your help with this!

Thank you for your support!
Here are a few announcements for the week:
- There will be no homework or spelling this week. The next packet will be coming home this Friday and will be due the following Friday. Even though there is no reading log, please have your child read or read to your child every night! I cannot tell you enough how important and beneficial this is to your child.
- Dollar dress down day is on Wednesday. If your child brings a dollar they may dress down. We have been having some issues with children dressing down, but not bringing a dollar. If this happens more than once your child will not be allowed to participate in future dress down days. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
- Conferences are this week. Thank you to everyone who has signed up! If you have not signed up please do so as soon as possible. I would like to meet with everyone. If none of the times on the door work for you, please come see me or send a note in your child's folder with some times that would work. If you have signed up for a conference I will send home a reminder in your child's folder today. If you have a conference scheduled for Monday the reminder was sent home with the report card. If you cannot come to your conference for any reason please send a note in your child's folder or call the office and ask them to put a note in my box.

Things
are continuing to go well in first grade! I am so proud of how hard all of the
kids are working. It is exciting to see the progress that they are already
making. I only have a couple of announcements this week.
Please
work with your children at home on tying their shoes. We do not teach that in
first grade, but it is a very important skill for them to have!
We
are going to be learning about apples for the next couple of weeks. We will be
doing an apple tasting and making applesauce in class. I will provide the
apples for the apple tasting but am asking for donations for the applesauce. If
you are able to donate a red apple or two, please send it in to school anytime
between now and next Monday. If you would prefer that your child not take part
in the apple tasting or eating the applesauce please let me know right away.
Thank you!
The
entertainment book sale ended last Wednesday. If you have not returned your
child’s entertainment book or the money for the book, please do so as soon as
possible. The cost for the book is $30. I am sending home a separate note with
the children whose books I still need.
As always if you have any questions or concerns please let me know! You can e-mail me at jcochran@lpatucson.org and I will get back to you within 24 hours.
